What do you want to know? lol I've been a sub wife for almost a year now and this is our first patrol since the wedding. Had a 6month underway last year plus tons of small ones. Will he be on a fast attack or a boomer? Both are very different as far as schedules etc go.

I've been married to my submariner for 11 years. Dh has always been on fast attack sub's. I've adapted to the lifestyle and love it. He's gone a lot but it just makes us appreciate each other all the more. The Navy has been good to him (us). Any specific questions??

My hubster is a Nuke on a Fast Attack.....other then getting tired of not seeing daylight and having horrible communication he likes it because he gets to know everybody on the sub pretty well and they all sort of develop this trust with one another....it's a great environment.

Difficult to say. In general I'd say it's less than on a surface ship since they can only recieve emails when at a ceratin depths. Plus they obviously don't have phones so no calls from the boat while they are out. With this underway we've been lucky so far and I've been getting emails every other day or so. But I know the system will go down soon and stay down until shortly before they come back.

If they're on a mission I might not get an email for up to 5 weeks, sometimes longer. That has only happened once. Boomers don't usually make port calls, FA's make several. Boomers don't deploy as long as FA. 3/4 months on a boomer vs. 6 months deployments on a FA. Fast Attacks do a lot of in and out...week here, month there, etc.. plus the standard 6 month deployment usually every 14-18 months. Boomers are out for three in for three, etc, etc.. pretty set schedule. HTH
Once they hit a port I usually talk to him several times a day. |

I have been married to a wonder Submariner for almost 14 yrs now
. Dh has been fast attack's for 18 yrs now! He LOVES IT!! He had a chance to go to a boomer but he decided not to go there for now! Communication is good sometimes. When dh is underway depending on what they are doing and how well the email is going I get several emails from him daily. When he is on deployment I get them more. When they hit port he calls to let me know he is safe and where he is at if he can. Then I usually get several calls threw out the day depending on if it is a working port or not. I wouldn't have it no other way. When he is gone it makes us appreciate each other more . We miss him like crazy when he is gone and he misses us to! No matter how long he is gone for when he comes home it is like our wedding day all over again!

thanks girls....its nice to hear it from the wives that go through this on a regular basis. i know that db still has a year of school left but it just worries me sometimes because even he realizes that its going to be different and hard and he's the positive upbeat one
