    Making SGT in the army?

    Advertisements
Dh went into the deployment a specialist. We were told he would be a SGT by the time he got back.. But you never know with the army.

But my question is, I know they have to have promotion points, does anyone know how many they need to be a SGT?

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm oh my gosh I have a mental blank!

Your dh is in infantry right? Well he has a good chance of becoming E5 whilst deployed. Infantry promotes alot quicker then most thingies. Which is definately needed.

Um I can ask dh in the morning. He's been an E5 for years! He just dosn't want to promote "I'm getting out, not staying in"

If he gets promoted in Iraq, then he's lucky. When they are at home- they have to do so much just for their uniform lol.

I remember dh helping his soldier to promote- they both sat with their dress uniforms for hours just making sure every ribbon, pin and badge was in the right place. Then he was teaching the dude the creed and they practised speeches and everything.

He will more than liekly make it. Deployments are very easy to promote during, so as long as he does what he needs to, he'll make it(this is what my DH says)

dh is trying to get promoted to sgt right now. as i understand it (i.e. i might be completely off here) it depends on what points are set at. right now dh has done everything he needs to to get promoted, passed the board, been to school and everything, but points are maxed out and he doesn't have enough. and they change like every month or something i think. i'll ask him what points are at when he gets home.

The points are different for different MOS's... I want to say that there's a website... it may be AKO (we're Army).. but something that tells you what the current points are set at for each MOS. I'll have to ask hubby when he gets home from work. My hubby's going to the board in like 2 months to get promoted too, but unfortunately for him, he's not getting to do it during deployment so he's going to have to work harder like the girls above me were talking about. Hopefully all our guys will get promoted..lol.

Oh man! I totally forgot about how many points they need. My boyfriend is SGT. in the Infantry and he explained and performed the whole thing in front of me. Told me everything about it. But I'm completely drawing a blank right now.

I think the other poster is right about it depends on their MOS and where the points are. I know my hubbys points kept changing and hopefully this week we will find out if he got it.
