    Confused Reenlistment question! help!

    Advertisements
So DF has been in the military for 2 years-and I still don't know too much about orders and such.

If he reenlists, will he get orders to choose from? Or would they just give him orders and that's where he goes?

Also, if he reenlisted right now(he's due to be done with his AD in October), would they keep him where he's stationed now?

    I'm so confused.

Thank you for my siggy Stacey!

It depends on the retention NCO and the timing. One of the first questions he needs to ask when he goes in is what his retention bonuses are. Like station of choice or a cash bonus, etc.

Ohhh, I see. So sometimes you get to choose-money or station of choice? Interesting. I never knew that!! I don't think he gets a choice of a cash bonus though, because he's NCS. He can get a bonus the second time he reenlists, but not the first time. He might not even be able to reenlist

The order thing only applies if he's in his window for orders when he re-enlists.. otherwise, he'll be at the same command until his window opens.

How do you find out when his window opens?

I don't know how it works with NCS and their windows. A Soldier's window usually opens up a year to 2 years before their ETS date, but with NCS, since they are a 2 year commitment, I don't know for sure.

With AD Navy you can begin "shopping" for orders 9 months before you're due to transfer. I'm not sure about NCS..
