    rank/pay promotions?

    Advertisements
does anyone know how rank/paygrade promotions work? Hubby was in reserves before, so re-enlisted into active duty last feb. He re-enlisted as E-3 with more than 2 years exp. he has now finished AIT, and is doing PVOC (extra training for truck driving and stuff) so I was just wondering when the HECK is he going to become specialist or at least go up a pay grade?! he got a bunch of promotion points just for being eligible for PVOC. I guess I'm just not sure where he/I can look/find out about his stance as far as prospective promotions go. Oh who am i kidding, i have no clue how it works!

I am pretty sure to be a specialist regardless if he was reserves you have to be in two years.

I know we are wiating on my husband to go to E-4 right now, but hes been told you have to be in minimium of 2 years

unless its different beause he was in teh reserves, which i dont know if it is. Hes gonna have to wait like everyone else to get to e-4. And unless his command really likes him, they can push him into early e-4, like and the year and half mark, but usually it takes 2 years.

I hope this helped. Sorry I responed so many times, I just kept thinking of things

From E-3 to E-4 All he has to do is pass a PT test. My DH was in for a little under 2 years when he got that promotion. He is currently reserves, but he was activated at the time (deployment) and all he had to do was pass a PT test. Not sure about promotion points - pretty sure those are only used when you're going for anything above an E-4.

hmm. boy this is a confusing topic! lol!
he signed his contract with the understanding that he has been in for OVER 2 years. He has already been re-enlisted since feb. he has done pt tests like every weekend, he has been doing tons of training. And wtf are they giving him promotion points for if he can't even use them!?! Lol anyway, wow. i wish there was just a straight forward answer for everything, but there never seems to be. oh well. i appreciate all of your replies, definitely helps me to put the pieces together!

I hope you figure it out. I never know what's going on until DH tells me. It's so confusing, and I really don't even think THEY know what's going on and how everything works

he can start earning promotion points not for when he is a specalist, so he can become a sgt faster. Like you have to have a certain amount of promotion point to be promoted to sgt, but he can earn them now.

As far as being promoted an an e4 from being an e3, he has to be active duty for atleast 2 years, then pass a pt test to be promoted. Does that makes sense? Since he joined as an e3 after being a reserve for 2 years, that probably is what made him an e3 instead of a Pvt1. Make sense?

now i'm confused. lol because he told me he is E-3, but he also told me he is PFC wtf?? lol i'm going to have to have a chat with him tonight. Now that i am thinking about it all in one frame it's like really strange lol. Is E-3 a paygrade, and PFC (private first class) a rank? i'm abouto throw the towel in with this one haha
