Navy to Air Force - Military Career Progression

has anyone's DH done this?
What was the transition like? Did you DH have the same pay grade? How long did the process take? Any info helps!

My DH is suppose to be getting out of the Navy in 2 months

and is considering going into the AF (one of his many ideas).

DH tried when he got out. granted this was before 9/11. but they would only let him in the AF if he went special forces. call a recruiter to find out if its a possibilty.

i have heard lots of times that the airforce wont take prior enlisted but who knows if that is true or not. he sure does have lots of ideas doesnt he LOL

I would talk to a recruiter. I would assume that if he did one of the jobs they AF desperately needs bodies for, then it wouldn't be too much of an issue. There's an ex-Navy guy in DH's shop. He made the switch after 9/11.

My dh agreed.

He said it may be possible, but you will loose rank. For the most part.

We tried and it was a big no. With the AF down sizing and all. Shoot the hospital I use to work for is now a clinic. I wish you luck.

Good luck I agree with what some of the other ladies have said... it is very hard to switch to the air force after being in another branch. My DH was thinking of the same thing but it would be very hard so probably wont happen again good luck to you if you try.

I have heard the same thing! Has he checked into the Coast Gaurd? There advancement is awesome. I have heard wonderful things from people who have gone coast guard after Navy. Good luck with what ever he chooses!!!

He talked to a recruiter about a year ago who said to call him when he has 1 month left. DH wants to do Meteorology .. they are probably doing the same thing the Navy is with the weather guys

BTW, Melissa, DH applied for a job in So Cal! I'll chat with you later about it
