    Question ABH on amphibious ships?

    Advertisements
    Hey everyone!

Haven't been on in a loooong time - glad to be back!

My husband and I are thinking about reenlisting and really want to go to San Diego to be closer to family. He will be reenlisting for sea duty, which he has only done while assigned to a carrier.

I'm curious to see if anyone has experience with what ABH rates do aboard amphib ships, such as LHA and LHD ships.

Thanks in advance for all your help and input!

My husband is an ABF on an amphib in San Diego. ABH will work on the flight deck, generally. They do damage control/salvage and firefighting when there are fires on the deck, etc. I believe they will also work with aircraft. Not sure on all the exact details.

Thanks Abigail! That's what he did on the carrier, we just weren't sure if they had some different duties since there's not nearly as much space as on an aircraft carrier. Any idea what kind of condition the amphib's out there are in? He's curious as to how much work needs to be done, in reference to how much dry-dock time they will have, I suppose. I guess our questions are kind of ambiguous, now that I ask him to clarify lol - and more ship-specific, too.

He's also wondering about the pace of things on an amphib ship for an ABH, in comparison to how fast-paced and busy they are on a carrier.
