    Navy IA Deployment?

    Advertisements
DH has expressed interest to do an IA deployment. The IA's I know have only done 1 year assignments. Is that the only length of time these can be? And does volunteering for an IA "look good" when it comes to PTS decisions--are they even considered during PTS decisions?

DH really wants to be career and wants to do all that he can to keep himself off the chopping block. I know that's easier said than done in today's Navy, unfortunately.

    TIA!

All IA's are one year unaccompanied.

I have a friend who did one, and he said it did nothing for his career, so I dunno.

I do not know if it helps with retainability any more than anything else.

While 12mo is pretty common I’ve known people who have done 6-9mo IA tours as well as several who did 15mo. (not including the training required beforehand)

Dh went on a 6 month IA. Don't think it helped his career he just wanted to deploying actually do something.

DF did a 7 month IA a few years ago. He didn't volunteer for it, but it was an opportunity to earn some medals which did make it easier for him to advance a bit

Well, DH will be happy that there's a possibility for less than a year. That's the one thing that he was sad about--he still wants to go, and would still do a year long, but he would definitely prefer the 6-9month opportunities if possible.

Seems like it won't help his career as much as he's hoping for. Don't know if that will change his mind on volunteering or not.

    Thanks ladies!
