    Nutts Security Clearance

    Advertisements
DH is about to start the process of a Secret security clearance and I'm worried it may not be approved. What are some things they look for? He doesnt have the best credit since he doesnt have many things on his credit but a car loan and a credit card. Will that make a difference? We've never been late on either but the credit card has a $3000 balance Will they take into consideration that its being paid every month?

    Thanks!

Having some debt is nothing *at all* to worry about. If you were hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt and.or having trouble paying, it might be an issue. Basically, they are concerned if your financial situation makes it look like you'd be desperate enough to sell secrets.

A secret clearance is pretty easy to get. I wouldn't worry much about it.

I deal with higher level clearances than that and I can tell you, don't worry. I would suggest that you get a copy of both of your credit reports and make sure there are no negatives on it. If there are, start working to remove or correct. Sounds like he will be fine however.

Thank you all! He is deployed so we cant even check his credit right now but I have zero credit since I've been a SAHM and never had anything in my name but our cell phones which dont count so I was just worried about him. I've been a ball of nerves since I heard he needed to get one because I didnt know what would disqualify him.

Checking your credit score requires a date of birth, ssn and address. You're entitled to one free per year. You can check both of yours.

Secret clearance.. Pretty easy. I wouldn't worry about it..at all.

No, you can get a free credit check, usually through your bank.

If you use a credit card with your name on it, you can. I paid for DH's with a card that in just an authorized user on and was able to call and cancel since the card had my name on it.

I wouldn't worry about that amount of debt. There is a completely free credit report you can get annually. https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp
