    Question Being Capped?

    Advertisements
Has anyone's so ever been capped? I think it might be a navy thing? I don't know. All I have heard is that the captain picks them to advance. So there has to be more specifics than that! haha

No, dh has not been. I'm just curious.

You have to be onboard the command for at least 90 days and the command has to be a certain type of sea duty. Usually the CPO mess conducts the CAP boards and forwards their recommendations to the CO via the CMC.

The program has flaws but usually those advanced through it usually deserve it.

My dh was capped on his last ship. He was capped to 2nd class. It was a huge surprise and b/c of it I wasn't able to be there.

Why was he capped? What do they have to do in order to be considered?

He was a superior worker, had a lot of awards and scored 98 and 99 percentile on his exam cycles. He just worked his butt off and thankfully someone noticed.

*I just asked him your question and that's the answer I got b/c I know nothing about it lol*

I wanted to add that he was on a FFG so b/c it's such a small ship it's a lot easier to be recognized.

My DH was capped to third class in his first command. He was recommened for it because he is an extremly hard worker, he was always the first one there and the last one to leave in his shop, he had a lot of awards and was also plain captain of the year, he was going above and beyond his job and people noticed.

Db has a cap package in right now. He may pass the test anyway but being capped would be great. IF he is picked. I don't really know the details.

My DH got capped to 1st. He had only taken the 1st class test once and when he got it he was deployed so we weren't expecting it all. I'm not sure exactly what is needed. My DH is at a meeting right now but when he gets back I'll ask him.

My DH said that being capped is the best way to get promoted because you get paid right away instead of having to wait like the rest of the people. He said it's a way for them to promote good people who didn't make the cutoff but the command feels like should have been promoted.
