    I don't know, but D was almost "promoted laterally" to Corporal when he was a Specialist. But I still don't know quite what that means.

    Good question! I've always wondered that too! Maybe they are like the same thing but you can pick which one you want to be?? Kind of like E-8 in the Marine Corps?

    A corporal is considered an NCO. But is still an E4 pay grade.
