WOW talk about feeling punched in the gut - Military Career Progression

J was active duty up until 8/2004 and was out for a few years and went back into the Navy reserves at the end of 2007. He has been trying to get orders for A-school since he got into the reserves with no luck, he had a request for orders in for the end of Oct but up until yesterday they hadn't been approved. he was supposed to leave today so he assumed he was going to just have to put in for new orders. So he went in today to put in for new orders, and was told that nope, he needs to jump on a plane TOMORROW to go to A-School for 3 months

. I know it's not super long, but I haven't done the separation thing in more than 5 years

(he's a reservist now). to top it off to have it slung on him like this just makes it a little worse, he is not prepared, his uniforms he ordered haven't come in, all he has are his camos, he has no flight, he has to activate his military visa and get a flight tonight for tomorrow. He has to get anything he might need packed tonight, I'm getting some time off from work tomorrow to get him to the airport. OY, this is nuts....there go the holidays

. I mean, I knew he was going to leave for school soon, but I thought we'd at least have a couple weeks to prepare once he got approved! Ugh....

So I got teary eyed when he told me, but I'm totally fine right now, probably just in shock still, which is still surprising because its

"that time" of the month. Oy, I better pack the box of tissues for when I drop him off tomorrow

We would give just about anything for that to be us right now. This whole in the reserves trying to go back active is such a process. It took John 5 months just to get the conditional release to even attempt going back. Now its been almost 7 weeks of simply trying to get to MEPS.

I'm sorry hes going to miss the holidays and he had to leave so suddenly. That would be hard.
