I know E-4 to E-5 was one year. I'm trying to find some info online for you for the rest of the ranks. I think E-5 to E-6 was 2 years but I'm not totally sure.

Okay, I found it. Here is a chart that lists all the requirements for promotion and the first one is the time in grade requirement.

After a quick google (I couldn't remember off hand)

    http://www.navyadvancement.com/navy-...vancement.html

What is the timetable for advancement?
Basic Time in Rate Requirements are:
    E-1 to E-2 9 months
    E-2 to E-3 9 months
    E-3 to E-4 6 months
    E-4 to E-5 12 months
    E-5 to E-6 36 months
    E-6 to E-7 36 months
    E-7 to E-8 36 months
    E-8 to E-9 36 months

Well, I'm what I am and I'm what I'm not
and I'm sure happy with what Iíve got
I live to love and laugh alot
    and thatís all I need

Otherwise, we'd have too many high-ranking soldiers, I think, and that'd be a lot of money.

yeah, it is a long time, but if they get EP's on their evals then they can be up to take the test before their 3 years is up. My DH needs one more EP and then he can take the test for E6 in a year.

If they have all EP's on their evals they can take it sooner.

E5 - E6 is a minimum of 2 years - BUT - you have to receive two EP's to take it that soon.
If you don't receive two EP's, then it's 3 years.
