dh tried but he'd been in the army 12 years already and they weren't really all that willing to help him and told him he'd probably lose rank if they even did take him blah blah blah

    so he stayed army.

I think it depends what branch you are trying to switch from and go to....it sounds like it can be a difficult process

he has been in the army for about 3 years...he is in the infantry...he loves being a soldier, but doesn't like his current job and he's talking about all the different options he has. one of them was the green to gold program and the other was the possibility of switching to a different branch-- the coast guard.

would it be easier for him since he is only a spc. and he has not been in that long? i think he has 3 years left in the army...

he is going to talk with someone tomorrow about the situation...if not tomorrow than some time this week.

my question is: can he get out and go to school and then go into another branch as an officer? he is thinking about the green-to-gold program very seriously.

does the coast guard have a program like that??? i didn't think they had ROTC tho, so i wasn't sure if they had a comparable program.

i guess what i'm asking (in a round-about way lol) is: if he were to join the cg instead, do they have a program like the green-to-gold one?

sorta yes- he could get out finish school and compete for OCS-

OR he could go in as enlisted- finish school and then apply to go officer-
( which is similar to the green to gold program)

but when he wants to join as an officer it is not the same as joining enlisted- will have to submit a packet - go thru a selection process and hope to get selected- he will have to compete with others for the positions that he is wanting. and he will have to go t OCS ( officer candidate school)
