    Specialist to Sergeant?

    Advertisements
DF was telling me before he left for training that he was gonna look into possibly getting his stripes soon. He said he should be up for a promotion, but hasn't heard anything about it yet, because HQ wasn't sure they had a slot open for his MOS (88mic transportation). DF is in the Army National Guard and has been a specialist since 2007 or so.

I know it all depends on each situation, etc. But on average, how many years until a soldier is up for promotion? I want to say two years, but I'm not certain.

i just talked to my lil bro who is a specialist & he said he was supposed to go for promotion this month, but there was some army problem, so it'll be soon, rather than this month. he got promoted twice while in iraq, so he's been an spc less than a year.

DH did it in 2 1/2 years. Everyone is different though.

Also, can you please take down your ticker? It's against OPSEC.

Does it still count even if he's only 45 minutes away for annual training? I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm just not very familiar with the technicalities of it.

Yeah, it counts.. Count downs to anything military related aren't allowed, even if you call it "Yay!" http://militarysos.com/forum/showpos...25&postcount=1

It can take years for a spot to open in the NG sometimes. Unless he's willing to transfer units, and drill at a different location.

I heard it takes longer in the NG and Reserves since those units are usually not very big and people dont come and go as often so slots dont open up as much.
