DH is thinking about joining at least the reserves when he graduates from college. He wants to go back in as an officer. Has anyone else SO gotten out and re-joined?

My dh got out in April 1996 and then went back in Dec 1997 but as an enlisted again. He was able to keep his E4 rank but had to change his rate which he was happy to do. He was MS (now CS = Cook) the first time in and he changed to ET.

My Dh got out after 6 years as an E stayed in the reserves while in college...THEN got bored after he graduated and went to OCS and became an officer. He is glad he did it that way

DH did.... He was in for a couple years, went through a divorce and decided to try civilian life. He spent 3 yrs as a peace officer before deciding to come back in. He kept his rank and was promoted 6 months later.

I did 4 yrs active duty and spent the next 6 as an Army Reservist.

DH got out 06/98 and came back in 06/08. He lost a rank because he was out for more than 6 months. That may have changed, but we also came back active duty vs reserves. I am not sure if there is a difference. They did front him (at no cost to us) $1200 for a new sea bag as well.

DB ETSd October of 2006, and he swore he was done! Well, fast forward to October 2007, and we were meeting with a recruiter He's now in the Reserves, and he really loves it! For a while there he was talking about going AD again, but I'm glad he chose the Reserves. If he was AD there's no way he'd be stationed anywhere NEAR here! So he's loving the Reserves, especially because he was having trouble adjusting to the civilian world (jobwise for sure). Hope this helps! If you have more questions, you can always PM me. I went to all of the meetings with the recruiter, because I had more questions than he did!
