    How long until applying?

    Advertisements
If your SO got out and got a civilian job, when did he start applying? How far out from him EAOS? And if he applied for DOD jobs, how far out did he apply for those? Were any of the companies willing to wait (i.e. hire them 6 months before their EAOS with a start date immediately after their EAOS?

    TIA!

We started putting our resumes out about 4 months before our eos...my exhusband was able to find a company that would wait for him to get out.

YAY! Good question. We've been wondering about this too. DH retires in 4 years, and I'm a huge planner.

Umm, I think that he needs to start applying for jobs in Virginia-as soon as possible.

I like that idea...Nothern VA has soooo much to offer

I agree with Jamie too...great question . I know dh wants to do many more years, but life can change for whatever reason at any time .

Save up that leave too, so there's 2 mos of paychecks coming in. My Dad was on "terminal leave" for 60 days before he retired. I think he started looking about 4 mos before his leave started.

DH started looking 6 months in advance. Three of the job offers were perfectly willing to wait until he got out. Definitely safe up for terminal leave so you can have over lapping pay!

I agree 6 months is a good window.
I was worried about when dh retires if he could get another job. Well, I found out that he is already being sought after by gov contracting positions and he has 5 years to retirment! So that makes me feel better.
