    Buying out contract

    Advertisements
A friend of mine asked me today about it and since I have no idea how it works I decided to ask here. How does it work? Who can do it? Any info appreciated.

ETA: I'm talking about someone who is enlisted in the Navy and wants out

You mean basically getting out early of your enlistment? We looked into for Ryan about a year or two ago. They had it available for his rate, but at the time we looked into, they were no longer doing it. Basically he would have to pay back his reenlistment bonus for the time not served, had to be leaving on a good term (good evals, passed PT, etc). But that was for his rate, and we never fully looked into it.

    Sorry I can't offer more!

I've never heard of this actually being done. I do know that a few people who won huge amounts of money in lotteries were offered a release at the convenience of the government, but I don't think it's possible to "buy out" a contract.

I would be very, very surprised to learn that this could be done.

Here's the info we found about it when we were looking. Looks like I was mistaken, SM that got SRB don't qualify...

    http://www.military.com/NewContent/0...071404.00.html

But like I said, both of these articles are old, and the program was no longer available when we looked into a year or two ago.

Thanks ladies! They are rather desperate and want him out because his command isn't being very helpful with his issues
