my dh would love shore duty. he hates sea duty.
but i guess some may like it because it gives them the opportunity to travel and they feel more like they are doing what they signed up to do if patriotism was a part of their decision.

My hubby is on shore duty but these orders aren't the typical shore duty. He is a RDC (drill instructor). However, he says he prefers doing this than being on sea duty.

He did 4 years on sea duty with a squadron, got out, came back in and did 4 years stationed to an aircraft carrier. This is the first time he took shore duty orders.

My husband is on his first shore duty in almost 10 years, it's really great. Some shore duties suck really bad and some are great. They just have to look at what they will be doing to decide which is better for them. My husband rotation is 5/3 so we only get 3 years of shore, but I'm really enjoying it. Rate and/or location makes a HUGE difference in what shore duty will be like.

Dh has had a couple shore duty tours. The last one was the best. He was an instructor. Looks great on CPO packages.

It takes some adjusting to when you have your husband home ALL THE TIME!!! Sometimes I do miss the duty days. But for the most part, it's great! Less stress...
