What exactly is "A" School. Is it included in boot camp or is it longer? DB was suppose to come home on the 3rd of Aug but he wrote to his mom something about A school in conneticut and I don't know if that means he'll be home later or what. I'm like freaking out though because I've been telling myself he'll be home on the 3rd. Help? He's in the Navy at Great Lakes, Ill if that helps.

When my DH was done with bootcamp he went right to his A-school so I didn't end up seeing him till after his school was done. It depends on if his school starts right away or if it takes awhile till he has to go. You can always go visit him when he graduates but other than that I'm not sure. Some schools are longer than others... for my DH I just waited till he was done with both then he came home we got married and I moved to Cali with him.

Dates will ALWAYS change in the military. You can't let it freak you out, because it's the only sure thing.
We went from a 12 month deployment to a 15 moth deployment, then to a 22 month deployment.. R&R was cancelled twice, and homecoming was delayed an additional month. You'll go bonkers if you count on a certain date that things will happen.. |

welcome to the navy life... one thing you should familiarize yourself with/understand now... is with the military, there really isn't a "set plan" for anything. dates/deployments/underways/homecomings/training/etc is always subject to change... you will have to learn to be flexible and adaptable...and definitely mentally prepare yourself for more separations or changes in plans along the way...
hang in there, tough it out... be supportive... it'll get easier/more familiar with time i'm sorry you're upset

If you know what his rate is you can go to usmilitary.about.com and find out approx how long his A school will be. May I ask why he didn't tell you about A school? I can't imagine it having come as a surprise to him, all enlisted Sailors go through it.

I don't know if it's changed since I went thru boot, but if you were undesignated, you didn't have an A school... If he went in undesignated and got an A school during boot, Congrats (it's a good thing!)!
