Navy bootcamp Christmas? - Military Boot Camp

My db just got to navy bootcamp and his training falls over Christmas. Do they close the training center for a couple of weeks? If so, is he allowed to leave and come home during that time? Was there another thread about this?

No, they don't close it for anything. They'll serve him a Christmas dinner, according to DH they go easier on them for the holiday but training doesn't stop..(DH went in during Nov. and was there over Christmas.) My step bro is at boot right now as well, he left on Monday.

Well, at least his graduation won't be prolonged by getting time off. Must think on the bright side. My db just went in this Monday also.

Cool. Feb will be here before you know it! With the new regs, he might be able to call family on Christmas.. I wouldn't get my hopes up, but maybe he will. DH said they'd be on a weekend type routine during the holiday.

My DH is an RDC (drill sergeant)at the Navy's boot camp and he will be working over the Christmas holiday. I wish they shut down boot camp for the holidays also. But, there are some areas of the military that don't and can't stop for holidays.

When my son was there(4 years ago) it was over the holidays. We had a friend that was stationed up there at Great Lakes and they were able to "adopt" James for Christmas day. They signed him out and he spent the day with the family then returned to base/barracks that evening. He was bit uncomfortable cuz he didn't really know the family too well....but said it was better than spending the day alone in the barracks.

my dh was there over christmas 2 years ago. they got to see a movie & had dinner, but that was it. he was able to call me that morning too ( but i missed it

) but no, they dont come home.

My DB was able to call his mommy over thanksgiving, so things look good for a christmas phone call! I was really upset when I found out he'd be gone for the holidays (would have been our first christmas!) but you eventually learn to just be tough and get through it. Write a lot, it's the key. Let him know that you love him.

DB says a lot of guys in his div don't have anyone, because they got dumped before they went. He says he's so, so lucky to have someone at home who's thinking of him and writing to him. Be there for your man - let him know that you're sad that he wont be there, but do it in a way that puffs up his chest and feels like a big bad tough guy, not someone who left you behind.

No. They don't shut it down. It would be quite nice though. They won't have to their same schedule that day but they will not get to leave or come home or anything like that. If it makes you feel any better my hubby is a RDC here and with a division so he'll be there with your hubby. Well, on base, not with your hubby's division.
