I got the box of my db's things today. I found that the couple of pictures of us, a letter I sent with him, and his address book were returned! Is this normal???? I thought they let him keep those things. Maybe he was just exhausted and didn't realize they were in his bag when he had to turn it all in. I don't know. But, I get sooooo sad that he doesn't have my letter and picture to encourage him in the hardest part of bc--those first couple of weeks. I don't even know when he'll get my letters because of the horror stories I heard. I'm just praying that he's staying positive, motivated, and confident in our love. Oh I wish I could hold him and tell him how much I love him and believe in him right now!

i am sorry this happened. nothing ever got sent back to me, but my dh is in the army so maybe its different. he got to keep all his stuff and if i sent something he couldnt have, then they kept it for him until the day he graduated. i am sure he will be strong. good luck

it usually takes a week or so to get mail up in great lakes but keep in mind that it will be a couple weeks until he can write to you if he just got up there (which i'm assuming that he did). also you can send flat mail so non risque pictures, letters, cards, newspaper articles, etc. i sent some pictures of me to dh on vacation, letters, a card, several newspaper articles, etc and he kept them all.

Yeah if he is in boot camp he has to send everything back home when he gets there. That is what my DH and brother both had to do

They send EVERYTHING home except for necessities like glasses. It'll be a while before you get any letters from him and a while til he'll be able to get any of your letters. Just right letters often and don't worry too much.. he'll get them and he'll be alright.

That seems strange to me... my husband had 2 suitcases of stuff and he kept it all. the stuff he wasn't allowed to have, he said was put in a civilian locker that he had to give to key to the drill sgt, then he got everything back the day befor graduation. He's army though... I don't know much about other services. Hopefully you can mail him some more pictures that he can keep.
