As a spinoff to the Elective Surgery thread, yesterday I was reading in a magazine about the widows of soldiers who died in Iraq getting implanted with thier sperm and having a baby a year or more after the AD member died. These women are currently getting Tricare Medical Benefits for those children, even though they were not dependents when the AD member was killed. How do you feel regarding this? Currently I think it is being reviewed by congress, so they may end up losing this benefit.

My opinion is that if they were not dependents before the AD member was killed and the spouse was not pregnant at the time the AD member was killed, then they should not receive benefits. If that were the case, the spouse could keep having children with the frozen sperm, just to keep getting benefits.
