What do you know about ERD?

Has anyone gone through the ERD (Early Return Dependent) process? Once you initiated the process, how long did it take to get approved? Once you were approved, how long did it take to get the movers to your house , get tickets home, etc?

Dh is deploying in November and we are planning for me to go stay with his family in Iowa while he is gone so I have some support when I have give birth. He just decided over the weekend (one week before he leaves for NTC till October 9th) that we should try to get me there via ERD. I am not supposed to fly past 36 weeks gestation, which is November 20. Is this going to be enough time to get approved and get all our ducks in a row?? I love dh to death, but he starts things like this without thinking about all the little details that are going to make it work and it drives me crazy. That's why I am usually the one to take care of the details, but I have no idea where to turn to get the information I need. I am so overwhelmed!

I would think though that it would make it harder for you to come back home once he is back from deployment. Especially if they are moving household goods. usually the Navy only likes to make one trip any others are on you. kwim? unless you are just taking a leave of abscence from your house. but in that case i would see what housings policy is on that

You're right. If I do ERD, the army will not pay for me to come back here or go back home when he gets out. But since his contract is up 3 months after he gets back (it's a 15 month deployment) and then he plans to switch to reserves, we figure it's worth it and then I won't have to buy a second set of household goods and a car once I get my own place in Iowa. Then since my mom lives here in Hawaii, I can stay with her for that last 3 months if need be. And since we will still be getting Hawaii BAH and it costs like 4 times more to rent a place in Hawaii than it does in Iowa, I should have plenty saved up by the end to by my own plane tickets to come back here and then go home again.
