    Tricare questions

    Advertisements
I hurt my knee (no idea how) but it is swollen and painful to walk on (and just in general now). When I called the Dr office they cant get me an appt until thursday which is about 5 days from now. They said I could go to the emergency room but if its not a life threatening injury (which it obviously isnt) of course tricare wont cover it...so what can I do? is there any other alternative I have to have someone look at it sooner? this is my first experience with tricare.

why wont they cover it at the ER??? um, Ive never heard that... Ive been 3 times since I have had tricare, and none of them life or death things. I needed to be seen, and that was the only way.

If you are on in pain, go.

Well i guess its not that they wont cover it all but they said if it is deemed not life threatening that i would have to pay a $300 deductible and then 50% of the rest of the bill...which i know could be alot.

Thanks for your advice. I am thinking about just going anyways...I am just confused by all of this.

Call Tricare and see if they can give you a referrel to an ER. then you don't have to be responsible for the cost.

    I will miss you SOS...
Please be wary of what you post remember OPSEC is not just another acronym.

Yeah that is pretty weird. I always end up going to the ER (or the one on base maybe that is why?) for UTI's because my DR is so booked up, and I am sure they aren't life threatening and I have never had to pay anything.

That IS an emergency, therefore Tricare will cover it. The only way you could really get a bill was if you had a cough and then it didn't turn out to be SARS or tuberculosis, or something like that. A possible fracture or sprain is an emergency. So GO TO THE ER GIRL!!!!
    Needs work.

I have never had Tricare not cover any. If you have Tricare Prime, they pretty much have to cover the bill.

    Thanks so much ladies!!
I did go to the ER and hopefully I wont receive a bill in the mail. I think the lady I talked to on the phone may just have not understood what I meant or something.
