I am not 100% sure on everything, because my husband got it all done. But I know he took our marriage certificate in, and had his page 2 updated and all that other stuff. (I believe life insurance and what have you). And he has to be w/ you to get into DEERS and get your ID. And once you have your ID, you can get on TriCare w/o him. I don't remember if you'll need your marriage certificate for that, but I don't think so since you'll have your ID.

As for the POA.. He can do that. Just got to legal on base or on ship. Again, my husband did all that, so I am not completly sure. But I hope this helped you a little at least.

That does ease my mind. He has no clue what to do. I told him to ask and he said oh we will just go on base when we get here. I was like I think you have to do the paper work with the command. But maybe I am wrong

    Thanks

Yeah.. The best thing for him to do is to ask somebody who knows. They'll be able to offer the most help.

    You're Welcome.

He will do most everything through his command. We just got married in January and I had to go to his command with him and I had to have my birth & marriage certificate, & SS card. Also if he is going to have your son on his page 2 and in DEERS then you need his birth certificate too. I was glad I was only born 40 miles from here because I didn't have a copy of it and had to go to the court house to get it.

i think the ladies have pretty much covered everything but i will put down what i had do since i just went through all of this a few weeks ago actually...to get my military ID and get put into DEERS (he either has to be there with you or you have to have POA) I needed my birth certificate, SS card, and marriage certificate. Then you can go put yourself into Tri-care, all i remember needing for that was my Military ID and marriage certificate. If there is anything else usually the people doing the ID stuff will be able to tell you everything you need to know.
*Nobody said it would be easy..they only said it would be worth it*

They must have changed the birth certificate thing because I didn't have to do that but that was also 6 years ago.

Once deers is inplace everything else is a piece of cake.
