    Selling back leave?

How does that work? And how is it calculated?
An unconditional right to say what one pleases about public affairs is what I consider to be the minimum guarantee of the First Amendment.

I've heard of this before.... It's just something that he has to request, and it's added on to his check..

We considered doing this instead of R&R.. DH would have had an additional 2 weeks off at the end of his tour...

But I dunno if it would be the same for Luke since he's Navy and all...

Can't Luke just add the days to his termination leave, instead of getting taxed on his leave payback?

That is what I was going to say. I personally think that it is better (money wise) to either work those days or take terminal leave. By selling them back you are taxed almost half. Unless you want that chunk of money, but it ends up being more if he was to just work or take leave.

We actually went through this the last time DH re-enlisted. This duty (RD) makes it difficult to take leave so he was nearing the "use it/lose it" point for max accrual. As it was possibly his last enlistment it was his last opportunity to sell the leave - for us it made more sense to sell off 30 days than to lose it all together by exceeding the accrual limit.
For us (MC) it is limited to two times in a career, must be at re-enlistment time and a maximum of 60 days total. We sold back 30 days leave. He was paid 30 days of base pay minus appropriate taxes.

Not too sure about selling leave back. I know it can be done. DH said it should be covered in TAPS class. If we find out anything soon I'll let ya know!

I was in the Army, and take my word for it, it's a LOSS of money if you sell leave back.

YES, you get a sum of money, but it's based on a per diem of his BASE pay. Now, if you just TAKE the leave, you get the base pay plus any COLA plus BAH/BAQ/BAS. whatever he gets.

Take the leave, it's the best option financially.
