    Tricare prime, switching OB/GYN's

    Advertisements
Ok, be 33 weeks this week. We're in the middle of moving to Whidbey Island, and at first I thought we would be able to keep my doctor in Everett, deliver the baby, etc there...but today we went up to Whidbey and it's just too long a drive to do for appointments once a week, and I frankly don't wish to sit in the car for almost 1 1/2 hours to get to Everett when I go into labor.

So I'm thinking I need to switch to an ob/gyn at the Navy hospital in Whidbey. I would need to be seen right away though, I have gestational diabetes, and well at 33 weeks we're cutting it sort of close. I also have HPV and need treatment for that after baby is born, and I also requested a tubal ligation. All this through my civi doctor in Everett.

In order to switch, do we call Tricare? or does DH have to go into medical and do the switch there? He doesn't check into Whidbey until mid-month, and we're moving in the meantime And, would we just start over from scratch? or is there a way for my file from my civi doc in Everett to be sent to the Naval hospital at Whidbey?

    Thanks girls

Go to your civi dr and request a copy of your records to take with you. that way there is no chance of them getting lost.

it doesnt matter when he checks in. go to the tricare office there and switch your PCM's. then just go to the OB clinic with your records and tell them you are new to the base and need an appt as soon as possible because of the issues you are having.

it shouldnt really be a big deal.

I agree with Donna, take your records to the military doc and just make an appt. Chances are you wont even have that doc during your labor unless she comes out or is on call. (or he)

Well so much for that, I'm so high risk, that my doctor doesn't want to release me to the naval hospital (he said he just can't in good conscious trust me to them ).

Yeah he said that he would rather arrange my schedules with him and the specialists all for one day, one after the other, than see me go to the Naval hospital. He said that if it was Bremerton, it would be ok, but no way no how to Whidbey.
He's a great doctor, he delivered our middle kiddo, and I trust him. If he says he can't trust the hospital with my care, then we'll just make the drive to Everett.
I need to go make a long-winded post about todays appointments from hell, lol.
