    DEERS Question

    Advertisements
I have a very out of the box question. Can you add a non blood relative (over 18) to DEERS as a dependent (Not spouse) if they are living with the sponsor and family and receiving all their support from them?

It depends on why they are being added. It can be done for generally it is because the person can not care for or support themselves (to put it simply but it isn't simple).

There is a whole check list of things. I'm thinking they can't get medical care and stuff like that. Take a look at this post.

Okay, that is what I was kind of thinking. So it seems really only if they are "disabled".

no, not even adult relative dependents can use Tricare - they can use an MTF on space available basis only.

non-relatives cannot be made dependents at all unless they are adopted or there is a full custody order and under the age of 26.

The adult dependents (parents) I know only have ER and pharmacy benefits. They can't see any physicians on post either except in the ER.
