    Dependent ID - Divorce

    Advertisements
Should you turn it in before the divorce is final or can you do it after? Mine is final in a month and I want to have it up until it's final in case I need it for Tricare. I know I wouldn't have access to the base near me once it's expired and it would be confiscated but is there another way for it to be confiscated without driving up to the gate? Visitor center? Or could I just have a friend drive me on base and go to the ID office to turn it in?

I would send it certified mail to the nearest DEERS office.

When I got divorced, I just gave it to my exhusband. We were still on pretty decent terms. Dont' forget to scrape the base sticker off your car too. Stick all the little bits on a piece of blank paper, and turn it in w/ the ID as well.

If you're going to mail it, you may need to include a copy of your finalized divorce with the papers to that they can take you off your exH's TriCare. I believe that's what my ex needed to bring.

As of Jul 1st last year they stopped requiring base stickers on vehicles.

I'll probably bypass the ex since we're several hundred miles apart and the nearest base is about 25 minutes away. But the removing me from Tricare is something he could do himself, right?

I didn't even need one in 2011 when I moved to Fort Irwin. At least that's one less thing to worry about.

All he has to do is bring a certified copy of the divorce decree signed off by the judge to the DEERS office. You'll automatically be disenrolled, effective the date of the decree.
