Dependent ID Card? What does it mean?

    Advertisements
Hub told me he has to make an appointment on base while I'm on spring break for me to come in and get my dependent ID card. (We got married recently) Obviously I'm going to go and do it, but what does it even mean? We don't live on base, his base doesn't really even have any commissary kind of stores or anything and I have my own health insurance. Is it kind of just putting me in the system officially? Just wondering! Thanks in advance!

Also... I miss MSOS. Got a new job teaching and I'm soooo busy

I guess. And it's not like it's a big deal. Over here I had to make an appointment, besides that I was in the office for like 5 minutes.

Why do you have your own health insurance, if you don't mind me asking? I would at least add Tricare as a secondary if you're choosing to remain with your plan. The ID card allows you to move freely on and off base as well.
Never do anything halfway unless you want to be half happy.

Is this a dream? If it is, please don't wake me from this high. I'd become comfortably numb

There is no reason to not get it. He should already have enrolled you in DEERS.
And if you ever wanted to get on ANY base for any reason, you will need it. If you ever need to drive onto base to drop him off or pick him up, you need it. It also makes a great second ID.

He's in the guard and is usually on temporary orders... and therefore doesn't have tricare, and isn't even eligible. So I have my own insurance.

I'm not saying I don't want it or have an opposition to getting it, I was just really wondering what you'd use it for. I'm already enrolled in DEERS, just need to get an ID card. As far as he explains it, I'd still need an escort to even get on his base even if I had one. There isn't really any reason for me to go on base unless I was dropping him off, and we have two cars, he'd probably end up taking the car and I'd get a ride because our jobs are over an hour and a half from each other. It is good that I'll have a second ID though.

With the I'd you can go on base alone or bring someone, etc. You don't need escorts. Most bases.

Ah, that makes sense! Well, if nothing else Lowe's gives a 10% military discount you can use it for.
