    GI BILL

    Advertisements
My God sister's DB is in AF BCT and after they plan on getting married....she does not think her parents will be supportive and does not know if they will help her transfer schools since she is using her dads GI Bill. However, if she is married doesn't that mean she can no longer use her dads GI Bill because she is no longer dependent of him? How does that work?

If she does get married she will still qualify as the transfer was done while she was still a dependent. With that being said, her parents do not have to help her transfer schools, and her dad would also have the option to stop the GI BIll for her all together, even if she didn't switch schools.

Special Report - Post 9/11 GI Bill

    • A child’s subsequent marriage will not affect his or her eligibility to receive the educational benefit; however, after an individual has designated a child as a transferee under this section, the individual retains the right to revoke or modify the transfer at any time.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you asking if she can say that she no longer wants to use her dad's GI Bill and wants to pay her own tuition instead? Then yes, she can just stop using it whenever she wants.

Are you asking if her dad can put a stop to her using the GI Bill? If so, the answer is yes. We would if it were our daughter.
