Jump for Joy Terminal leave and pay

    Advertisements
Hi my husband goes on terminal leave from april to july. I understand that we are supposed to receive BAH during this time but right now we are stationed in Germany and do not receive any BAH, it doesn't even show up on his LES so how will this work once he starts terminal leave? Will we start receiving BAH and how will we know how much we are supposed to be receiving? Thanks!!

    here is the answer:

    b. Returns to a U.S. Processing Station. A member separating/retiring at a PDS outside the U.S. who
returns to the U.S. for retirement or separation processing is authorized OHA (if not assigned GOV’T
QTRS) through the day before departing the OCONUS PDS. The day the member departs, OHA is no
longer authorized and the member is authorized the BAH rate for the retirement/ separation processing
location if the member is not receiving a with-dependent housing allowance for dependents residing
separately. If the member is being paid a with-dependent BAH rate for dependents residing separately, that
BAH rate continues until the member separates or retires. .

BAH is based on location: you can find the rates here: BAH Calculator

no, this is not correct- the info I posted was specifically for those ETSING OR Retiring from OCONUS the rules are different than PCSing.

I'm confused, you mean you can't do normal ETS or retirement out processing OCONUS? What kind of move is it? Doesn't out processing only take a day or two? Why would they send them to CONUS to do the out processing paperwork? They send the whole family to the out processing post and then to their final location? What about people who want to stay OCONUS and work there after they ETS or retire?

when the member takes transition leave and returns to the conus location for the duration of the Transition leave it is handled differently than those that simply "get out" while OCONUS.

for those that use transition leave and remain OCONUS the rules are also different for that.

it really has nothing to do with out processing but has everything to do with the actual seperation date.
