I don't know a whole lot about it, or how it differs from the Montgomery GI which is what DH was using previous to his deployment. Any information on it is welcome. We are trying to learn as much as we can before he comes home.

DH is trying to find out more about it too but his resources are limited on his deployment and the unit he is deployed with is horribly incompetent as far as information is concerned.

DH just transferred his to me, now I'm just waiting to get accepted/start school next Fall.
What....do you want to know? If he's using it he should have 36 months of benefits and as the AD member he should get BAH and books paid for on top of tuition. I'm not sure how it differs from the montgomery though. I have found info on it really shady. I have talked to my potential school's VA center and the VA and the education center on base. I get different answers from everyone.

This is a good calculator for the GI bills. It's done by the IAVA.

I know with Montgomery you get a monthly amount and then they pay tuition. With Post 9/11 you still get tuition and then BAH right? Do you get a different monthly amount along with the BAH? DH has a kicker for his GI Bill how does that play in on the Post?

Ya the VA people here are completely clueless and of zero help. It's very frustrating.

With the 9/11 the school is paid directly.

You get the housing stipend, paid on the first for the previous month, pro-rated for any weeks they weren't in school. (For instance Jan 1 we get paid for Dec, but since his classes end on the 21st, we get 2/3 of the BAH for that month).

DH also gets the G.I Bill kicker; it's probably different for most people, but for us it's an extra $400 a month. Book stipend is direct deposited, but usually way after you have to buy your books. Tuition is paid directly to your school; you don't see any of that. He also has to verify his enrollment every semester to make sure he gets paid on-time.

if you have any other specific questions, let me know. DH has been going to school on it for a year now, and I have researched the crap out of it.

Make sure you look at tuition costs and see which one is better for you. In low cost areas where BAH isn't that high the regular GI Bill is often a better option.
