    Changing referral doctors?

    Advertisements
    Hi folks!

Has anyone ever changed a doctor they got as a referral? If you have, where do you call to do that?

I'm Tricare Prime if that matters.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't need a referral to go to the doctors because I'm on standard but I'm pretty sure all you'd have to do is call Tricare, tell them you'd like to switch doctors & ask for a new referral.

"Thank you so much. No matter what, nothing is possible without you behind the scenes bustin heads and takin names. Thank you again. Everything you have done for me means a lot and nothing has gone unnoticed. I love you so much and thank you for saying 'I do.'"

I called the Tricare South main number when I wanted a different OB than the one they automatically assigned me (I wanted one closer to my house). It wasn't a big deal at all. I was told I can do the same with my physical therapy referral.

Just found out today that it all depends on how many times you've used that referral. If you've only been 1x for the consult, Tricare will change it for you. Anything past that, your doctor has to request another referral for you. (this is from Tricare North, and again I'm Prime)

Yeah. I changed mine before I ever saw someone.

The only time I switched was when I was pregnant. I went to one practice for 3 appts and was not happy. I called my case manager about how to switch and she told me that nothing else needed to be done, I could just switch. We have Prime.

I would call the Tricare office to double check.
