    Enrolling with Tricare.....

    Advertisements
My DH sent me all the papers in mail (he is at basic) and now i have to enroll us in Tricare...they won't let him do it there. Everything i read on website isn't helpful! Says i need log in code or something. How do i get that? Im going to get my ID made soon, do i have to have that finished before we enroll? Currently on no insurance, so trying to get it set up asap! I feel like doing this . Help would be appreciated.

Once you have your ID card you'll automatically be enrolled into Tricare Standard. If you are going to a base then you should be able to go to the Tricare office and fill out Prime paperwork if that's what you want to use.

Yeah. You have to have an ID card first. Be careful going on Prime if your not close to a military base. It can be a little more complicated until you are close to one.

Why isn't your DH on Tricare? He should already be enrolled in Prime

He is currently at BMT and not allowed to set it up for us.. So he sent me the info. Any input on what to sign up for? I've been researching all options currently.

Oh. Well usually, active duty members are put on Prime once they're out of training & become active duty.

I'm on standard & I love it so much more. On prime, you have to go to base for any medical reason & if you decide to go off base, you have to be referred.
With standard, you get to choose your own doctor off base & you don't have to call Tricare every time you go see a doctor off base to basically get their permission.

You should probably also check out the base doctors when you do move on base, just to get a feel for them. It would suck if you transferred onto prime & ended up being miserable with the base doctors.

Well for the next 2 years i'll be traveling on and off base to finish up nursing school...so i think for me my best option is standard! Finally starting to understand this stuff
