    Getting Tricare Standard?

    Advertisements
How do we get Standard? I don't want to go to Irwin for my prenatal care, so my doctor's receptionist said that we should get Standard. When we go enroll me in DEERS, do we just say we want Standard instead of Prime?

You get standard as soon as you enroll in DEERS.

    Awesome. Thanks!

This is why I love this site. Haha. I'd be so freaking clueless (well, even more clueless)otherwise.

I am on standard now and I absolutley LOVE it. I get to see my own doctors and I have zero copay and my prescriptions are either free or almost free. DH pays $5/paycheck. Well worth it!

When you go to the tricare office you have the choice of standard or prime. That is when you choose standard.

He shouldn't have to pay at all if he's on active duty. There is no monthly premium for Tricare Standard while on active duty. And the amount is way more for reserves.

You actually don't have to fill anything out for Standard. It's automatic. You only have to do paperwork for Prime.

I went to the tricare website which led me to tri-west since I lived in San Diego. And called the 800 number and set everything up that way.

Oh I did not know that. When we went in to the office they gave us the option of prime or standard

Yeah. I didn't enroll in Prime until about a year after we got married (then disenrolled pretty quickly). I never had to fill out paperwork until I wanted to get on Prime. Standard is the default insurance.
