    Tricare Prime/Co-pays

    Advertisements
I have Tricare Prime and I had a test today at the hospital. They said I have a co-pay, but I thought on Prime there was no co-pay.

Did you have a referral for your test?

There is not a co-pay for Prime. I would call TRICARE (http://www.tricare.mil/contacts/) and talk to them.

I was told the hospital did have a referral before I scheduled the test. The hospital didn't press me for the co-pay, but I feel bad if I told them wrong.

There are certain test and procedures that do require a co-pay on prime, or rather Tricare only pays a percentage and we have to pay the rest.

I would just call Tricare for clarification.

I'd call Tricare. I've never heard of a copay for a medically necessary test on Prime though.

there should not be any out of pocket costs for tricare Prime.

I had prime for 7 yrs and never once paid for anything regardless of what was paid by tricare.

You need to call Tricare. Sounds like they sent you to someone out-of-network. Even if you receive a referral for a specialist, if they're not in the network you are charged something like a $12 copay.

The hospital said it was a $12 co-pay. I told the lady in registration I shouldn't have a co-pay and she said that was fine.

My MIL works for the hospital, so I'm going to have her make sure the referral is on file. I haven't had to pay for anything done there so far. Just wanted to make sure I told them right.

I have heard of co-pays while on prime so I agree with getting clarification.

Not sure if it means anything, but I have known many people to get bills after having babies.
