You're automatically on Tricare Standard (Tricare's PPO). You have to enroll at the tricare office for Prime (HMO).

The tricare office usually has the brochure in the office. You can read up on the differences online.

Prime- Completely free. Have to be seen on base if space is available. Have to get referrals and authorizations for specialists, tests etc.

Standard- Coshares but can see who you want without referrals.

Thank you. I will get some info online. But from your experience which option is better? Probably the free one, right?

Nope, out of pocket I don't pay a damn thing.

However, if you get pregnant again, I'd personally go Standard. I will have to switch the next time I get pregnant. I refuse to go through any of that with a Military Dr. And I had to go through the Military my 1st pregnancy because I didn't switch in time. But, even Standard isn't really expensive I heard.

I just switched to standard- I will see my new doc for the first time on thursday- there are cost shares but for this area I had to go standard to get out of the MTF system.
