    DOD Tags

    Advertisements
    Hey ladies. Huge question!!

I have a military Id that is good until 2014. Can I go to any military Installation to get DOD tags for my car and have access to the base?

We are former Army but still reserves and Im technically still married to him.

    Thanks

uhhhh... there are so many things wrong with that... but i'll just say No, you can't.
Generally you need orders or proof that you are allowed to be on base. My husband usually gets the tags because he has all the stuff that is needed to get them.

Once you are divorced you lose your base privileges regardless of when your ID expires. Technically you are required to turn it in or destroy it unless you have kids who will still be under his insurance.

And not saying that you will do this or even thought about it, but if you do try to use them after you are divorced you can get in serious trouble for it.

we dont even have divorce papers filed yet. he refuses to file and I cant afford to right now.

I dont think im going to even try to get the tags. This way is better than having to deal with getting into trouble later

yeah, usually dh goes in and gets them so IDK if you could just go in with out a POA or some thing saying you would require them. Honestly you could try calling but i think most bases are doing away with DOD tags (i think like the air force has). I know the some Navy bases still require them, like most of the bases in Hampton Roads and here. It was a bit weird not having them on my car in Nebraska.
