In the case of a divorce, would the step-child of a military member lose their "dependent" status? I know biological children remain entitled to certain benefits, but this came up and I am

To my knowledge, yes, unless the member adopted the step-child.
Once they are divorced he no longer holds claim to the child and no longer supports them.

Thank you. That was what I thought as well, but then it was argued to me that that wouldn't be true (however, argument came from someone who mostly just loves to argue with me, lol, gotta love sisters)

since the child will no longer be a dep he or she will not get benefits- however if the member is court order to pay child support for step child the child would still be considered a dep.

Well, she was - about 15+ years ago, and her DH is AD -- she and I have the classic oldest sibling (her)/baby of the family (me) relationship, lol. That said, she is also one to blow smoke

If adopted (which is somewhat common) yes they would pay child support. Otherwise the childs biological father should be paying child support etc.
