    Question Maybe a stupid question

I know if DH goes to BCT as an E1 he will get that oh so fine print on the pay charts "E1 with less than 4 months of service" pay. If he passes the PT test and goes in as an E2 will he get straight E2 pay? Or is there a "less than 4 months" for all the lower ranks?

You'll have to look at the pay chart.
All ranks have a "less than" portion.

    Like E4 with <2 years...

OK, so the only thing I see on the pay chart is E2 with less than 2 years, so I guess that would be it. Thanks!

Yes, because most like a person wouldn't be an E2 in less than 4 months.

It's always better to start as e2. E1 pay sucks

Yeah, I was just confused because the E1 with less than 4 months isn't on the chart, but listed below. We were originally told he would go in as an E3 but he didn't have enough ROTC credits so we're hoping for E2. Trying to make a budget without knowing what he'll be is driving me nuts! So I'm making a couple different budgets based on the pay charts. Just want to be sure I'm using the right numbers.

I'd say, make the budget for e1 with less than four months service and then be pleasantly surprised if you end up with more.

thats a great idea, OP. Don't count your chickens until they hatch. With the military one person could say E2 and your SO ends up at E1.

My husbands papers all say E2 but he already has service time thanks to the AF Academy. It would just be the E2 pay. I agree tho just plan for the E1 less than 4 months then that way if it is more then you will have a nice surprise if not then at least you are prepared

The E1 (aka no money) budget is made, and the E2 budget is the dream budget! Thanks ladies.
