    Tricare Prime - what's included?

    Advertisements
So I asked DH what Tricare covers and he has no idea..... So what does tricare cover? I really don't know anything about it and I will be on tricare starting on the first. Any basic info you can give me would be helpful!

Also, does anyone know how I would go about getting my birth control RX switched to tricare/military pharmacy? Please tell me I don't need to get another hooha exam - I just had one in October!

Yeah you just need to tell them your insurance has changed and that you have tricare now they will ask you for your DH's social number so you need to be prepared and know that!

I go to walgreen's as well!

You can take your rx's anywhere to be filled. At the base pharmacy, if they carry that brand, it's free. If you use the mail in pharamcy you pay a smaller co-pay than if you go to a public pharmacy.

I have a rx; at the base = free, mail in for 90 day supply = $3, monthly at Walmart = $6

I was told back when I first got married that I could not transfer my before PCM's RX for my BC to a MTF Pharmacy because they only take RX from Dr.s either that work there or are covered under Tricare.

So I had to get another exam. Oh and this was at Portsmouth Naval Hospital.

oh and to answer the question..Tricare Prime.. you get 1 eye exam a year for free (provided the place takes Tricare), 100% coverage at the assigned PCM (which can be at an MTF or a Civi out in town if the MTF is not accepting new patients), 100% ER coverage (just make sure to call in and say you are on your way or call in the next day saying you had to go.. although I have only called in 1 time out of like 15 and all have been covered).

Make sure you sign up for United Concorida Dental as it is not automatic.

I'm not Tricare-savvy... but if it's anything like regular insurance, you should be able to request a Summary of Benefits, and a Formulary (which will tell you which drugs are/aren't covered).

Basically, you have to be seen at an MTF as long as you are not more than 50 miles from a base. If you are more than 50 miles then you can go to a civilian doctor that takes tricare. You will find its not easy to be seen same day, sometimes not even same week, if its an emergency, go to the hospital or base ER (although hospital is usually quicker).

you can also go to tricare online and get benefit information
