    Birthcontrol Pill and Tricare

    Advertisements
    So I was told today by the pharmacy (Walgreens) that Tricare only covers the pill if it's for a medical reason. I'm on standard but that still doesn't seem right. And do cramps count as a medical reason? I only went to Walgreens because base is 30 minutes from where we live. Any help would be appreciated

    Uhm. No. That is false. I was on BC pills for the medical reason of not wanting babies and it was covered.

    That doesn't sound right at all. I would definitely be on the phone with them on Monday...and if they are not picking up, drive your ass down there, and bring out mega bitch.

    TRICARE covers the following forms of birth control when prescribed by a TRICARE-authorized provider:

    Contraceptive diaphragm, including measurement, purchase and replacement;
    Intrauterine devices, including surgical insertion, removal and replacement;
    Prescription contraceptives, including the Preven Emergency Contraceptive Kit containing special doses of regular birth control pills and a self-administered pregnancy test;
    Surgical sterilization, male and female.
    TRICARE Beneficiaries : Covered Services - Birth Control

    There ya go! If it's prescribed....all yours.

    I think it must be a non-formulary!!! Because it says those are for medical necessity only. So I guess I need a different prescription...she just wrote me a new one and this is the first time I've tried to fill a birthcontrol script with tricare since getting married.

    Yes and No. Tricare doesn't cover every brand name. If your script can be filled as a generic, but your doctor writes it for "brand name only-do not substitute", then your doctor has to submit to Tricare why you can't have the generic. I've had it happen. Thankfully DH was deployed, so no problem waiting to get ahold of the doctor.

    Could you call Tricare and ask if your script is covered? Their web search tool is down.
