    Confused Insurance question.... HELP?!?!?!

    Advertisements
So since I'm full time in college I've been able to stay under my parents health insurance.... but for those of you that read my post yesterday... I GOT MARRIED

Dilemma::: How long will it take for my parents insurance to find out that I'm married? I haven't gone on to DH's insurance yet, so the insurance I'm on won't see that I have another policy or anything.... Anyone work with insurance???

not telling your current insurance co is considered fraud- you should change as soon as you can,

Yeah, if you make any claims at all after being married (and if being married disqualifies you from that insurance), then it would be fraud and having to pay back, in full, would be the least of your worries.

Your insurance through DH is free; is there are reason you wouldn't enroll in that ASAP?

Yea, you need to call them ASAP and get taken off your parents insurance and have your SO go and get you registered in DEERS, it only takes a few hours.

Have him get you a POA so you can do it yourself if he doesn't have time.

Do your parents not know that you are married?

Why? Just why. Why is it that people feel they are old enough to be married but they can not be old enough to be honest and upfront?

Having POA " just in case" is a good idea too ^

You should tell your parents because they legally have to take you off their insurance. They also need to know in terms of taxes possibly.
