    Advertisements
My dh and I are newly married and he is based in Hawaii. Just now he told me that we can't get bah for a place because I'm not on the island atm. That doesn't make sense to me?
does anyone have any information or suggestions? I feel so out of the loop and I miss him so much

He should be entitled to some kind of with dependents money so you can live. I would call your finance office.

You are entitled to BAH, but I think it's based on where you live.

Call finance and they should be able to help you further.

It could also have to do with the fact that you have only been married a little over 2 weeks. Are you already in DEERS? That is the first step. And then it may take a little while for BAH to kick in. But he is correct, he won't get accompanied Hawaii BAH until you are in Hawaii.

But you should be getting some kind of BAH, the amount (I believe) will be the amount for where YOU are currently living.

Okay, I'm going to be honest with you I don't even know what DEERS is. All of this is sort of frustrating because I feel like I can't do anything since I'm not with him. I've also heard we can't have bah if we don't have a lease. Is that true?

If I went out there would it be easier?

Do you have an ID card yet?

As far as the lease goes? I have no idea...I know DH was getting BAH while having a lease...and we are getting BAH now and we have a mortgage...

    Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System

It gets you put on as a dependent. This means an ID card for you, BAH, health insurance, etc. It is extremely important to enroll.

No, i don't have an ID card yet.

Is this what needs to be done?

    1. My DH signs us up for deers.
    2. We go to nearest place for ID cards.
    3. He gets a loan for housing.
    4. We fly out to Hawaii.
    5. BAH kicks in when it does

did you enroll in DEERS? do the military know that you're married?

we got married in april, and i lived in florida until till july - my DH lived in hawaii the whole time. we collected BAH for the entire time we were married, even when i was in florida. and since my DH is stationed in hawaii, we've always collected the BAH amount for hawaii.

    something isn't right.

as soon as you get married, you rate BAH. he needs to sort this out!

EDIT: just seeing now that you said you aren't in DEERS yet. so disregard me asking you.
