    Dental Question

    Advertisements
I was seen by my dentist about 5 months ago. While there she referred me to an oral surgeon to get my wisdom teeth taken out. I blew it off because I've never had problems with them. But now the last few days one of them has been hurting so bad.

Do I have to call Tricare or anyone to get a referral to get the tooth removed? Or do I just find a place that accepts United Concordia and make an appointment? I've never had to get a referral for anything before but I don't want this to be the one time I do!

You will have to call United Concordia or your dentist and ask them. Normally you will need a referral. Oh and Tricare wont answer your questions. Tricare and United Concordia are seperate.

Yep you find a dentist that take UC and work with them. Tricare stays out of dental issues.

I just called United Concordia. The woman I spoke with told me that you never need a referral for dental as long as you choose an office that accepts the insurance. Seems way too easy..

ummmm ya that sounds way to easy. I never need a referal to see a normal dentist but for specific ordeals like an orthodontist or specialist to remove teeth might require a little more.

I thought so too. I asked if I needed a referral to see an oral surgeon for a tooth extraction, and that's the answer I got.

Make sure you get a quote too before you schedual the appointment. UC usually only fully covers checkups, anything else there is a co-pay. I had to pay $160 or something for 3 fillings once

I know one time, a lady on another forum had issues with one causing her major pain, she went to the Naval Hospital ER in Portsmouth VA, and they actually sent her up to oral surgery and they took it out for her within 36 hours of being seen.

It doesn't bother me enough to go to the ER. I have an appointment for the consultation next week so I'll just see what they say.
