    Help TriCare Vison Question

    Advertisements
I got a letter from DH yesterday, and he said he needs to get new frames for his glasses while he is here. Is that on his insurance or what?

They are issued one pair of glasses a year though the military.

Well I don't know if he just wants new frames or is told to get them. He say's he has the prescription. So, if he just wants to get them we would have to pay for them?

If he decides to go off base...yes.

If he orders them through the Optometry clinic on a base they are free. They only have a few frames to choose from but they are way better than what are issued in boot camp.

If he wants a nice pair from a civilian place he'll have to pay for them, if he wants free ones that are not hideous like the BCG's then he'll have to go to the base AD optometrist. They are still pretty crappy, but they are free. My husband buys a new pair from a civi each year because the free ones always fall apart on him. The AD clinic had their basic ones and a few pairs of "designer" frames (that are still crap)They will replace them if they fall apart though. The basic ones they'll replace as much as you need, the designer ones they'll replace once within that year (so 2 pairs are the limit each year).

If he does have the paper script and wants to pay out of pocket here is a site I use frequently for contacts and glasses. They are pretty inexpensive for both!!
