    Tricare and Brand Name meds

    Advertisements
Someone help!!! Ok I went to the Pharmacy last night to get my meds filled and Tricare won't pay for one because it is a brand name. It was specifically called in as brand name because I had a problem with the genric. Anyone know how I get them to pay for it?

They wouldn't pay or it was a different price?? Normally it is $3 for generic, $9 for name brand and then their is the tier thing. With Tricare my BC is considered tier 3 or something like that. Other meds can do what my BC does (according to the info) cheaper so I have to pay more for my preference. (My preference is the only that I have been on that I didn't have unmanageable side effects).

I have had some meds turned down. I had prescription toothpaste. I really needed the flouride, but tricare turned it down stating that I can purchase OTC toothpaste.

They turned it down because it comes in a generic. Basically Tricare will not pay if your med comes in a generic you don't get the choice to buy a generic or a brand name you pay the generic price if it comes generic or you pay the brand name price if it only comes in brand name. I had all brand name from a MTF when I moved here and when I switched to Walmart didn't understand why Walmart switched them to generic now I know why Unfortunately to lay it all out there the change made me very depressed and a little suicidal . I have always had medication sensitivities and medication resistances and when you consider all the meds I take are for my brain that is a sticky combo...

As far as I know there are generics for the BC I am on (have taken it for over a decade) and the name brand is still covered, just at a higher cost. Where is that handy dandy tricare manual I have??

I just called Express Scripts and they said that if the Dr calls them jumps through hoops ect.. then they MAY approve it for medical necessity. Here is the website if anyone ever needs it http://www.tricare.mil/mybenefit/Dow...k_09_Final.pdf

My birth control is brand name too. While I didn't pay $9 for it it was more like $22.
Weird that tricare is denying it.

I don't live near a base to get my medicine so I have to go to wal-mart or another pharmacy.
