    Tri Care Dental?!

    Advertisements
So apparently when you sign up for TriCare you have to sign up seperatly for the dental plan. Dh and I were not aware of that and when I called TriCare to find out who took my coverage they told me that I'm not enrolled. So I have to enroll, but I'm not near a base. (Closest one is about 40 minutes away.)
So I have a few questions. (I'll be calling TriCare in a little bit as well to find out what I can do but I figured I'd ask everyone on here since you might be able to help me a bit more since I'm still new to this.)

    1. Can I just go up to a base and enroll?
    2. My husband obivously isn't with me, however I'm allowed to sign for him so does that mean I can sign myself up?
    3. If I can enroll over the phone, does it kick in asap?

I'm asking because I chipped my tooth (on a piece of gum. WTF!) 2 days before I came back to Philly. I had to have a temp. crown put on it fell out and I was in tears last night I was in so much pain. I might have to have a root canal and I was just going to pay out of pocket but if I can I would really prefer to do it through TriCare or whatever the Dental plan is called.

I am thinking that the may consider this a pre existing condition... Not sure that it would be covered??

There's a form you have to fill out and send in with your premium, so no, I don't think you can enroll automatically at a Tricare office, unfortunately. It's not technically Tricare's policy, it's a separate company. I needed my hubby's signature to enroll myself. Aaaaaaand the coverage is pretty minimal, unfortunately. You might be able to get one root canal covered in a year, but possibly not one you needed before enrolling.

United Concordia is dental thru the military. You can see any off base dentist that is on their list. The coverage is crappy(depending on rank, just FYI).

My mom works at a dentist office thank god, and I go to them for everything. I think I'd rather just stick with them and pay out of pocket than go somewhere else and have someone I don't know work on it.

You can sign up online. It's like $12.50 a month. Anything dealing with tricare you do not need to have your dh with you. Since it's past the 20th of the month you will have to wait till nov 1st for your coverage to begin. Don't believe there is such a thing as pre exsiting conditions with tricare dental cause if there was I wouldn't of been seen or covered.

the cost depends on who is enrolling. It is 32 a month for us but we are a family, so if OP has kids or anything it would be the larger amount.

but yeah you would be waiting until the 1st which bites.
