    Health Care off base?

    Advertisements
I'm already in DEERS, however I will be returning home when my DH deploys and would prefer to see my doctors that are non-military. (I've seen them since I was a baby.) If I wanted to go to their office, I know I have to see if they accept TriCare (unless I want to pay out of pocket) but do I need to get an insurance card or something? I used to have to Blue Shield I think and I had an insurance card, but I'm not sure how it works with TriCare. If anyone has any idea please let me know.

You would need to switch to Tricare standard, if you are currently on Prime. Your dependent ID will serve as your insurance card.

Ok. Thank you. I think they told me that while I'm back home it will switch to standard, but when I come back it will go back to prime. If I want to go directly talk to someone about it, would I just go to where we signed up for it? Or somewhere else? I'm sorry, I'm new to all of this.

Standard= you choose your own in-network doctors and pay small copays

Prime= you receive all your care from military facilities if available at no cost

Standard you get to choose your Dr, however there may be co-pays. Prime you don't have co-pays, but you may not get to choose your Dr.

Yep what they say. Depending on your husbands rank though you may have to stay on standard for a year regardless of you moving back to your current base. (E-4 and under the rule is waived).
